ABOVE AND FACING PAGE: This home takes the word "renovation" to another level. We lifted the existing house by five feet due to its location on a flood plain and doubled
the footprint to expand the entertaining and living areas. Then we added a light-filled bonus room on the third floor. And for good measure, we included a fourth-floor
observation deck which gives the homeowner a spectacular view of the bay the Long Island Sound.
FACING PAGE: Our approach to the interiors was to create as many indoor-to-outdoor spaces as possible. The open-concept first floor is bordered by a folding-glass wall
in the living room that opens to the rear deck. A 12-foot Danby marble island in the kitchen is a focal point for entertaining. The same marble was used as the backsplash
and accented with floating shelves. A cozy breakfast nook was built into a bay window for intimate morning conversation and coffee. On the second floor, a trio of modern
French doors opens to a private deck. A wall of windows flanks the new stairwell between floors, flooding the area with warmth and natural light.
