ABOVE: The owners of this modern desert residence are pilots, so the wing-shaped roof not only f rames views f rom the home but borrows f rom aircraft design. The distinct
roof is also a response to the distant city sightlines and views of the immediate hillside. We used a steel trellis and steel structures to create shadow lines that change with
the movement of the sun during the day and connect the two structures. Preservation of the clients' "special place" was accomplished by wrapping the home around rock
outcroppings.
FACING PAGE: The couple values privacy and entertaining, which were important factors while designing the home. There is a separate guest house so homeowners and
guests alike can enjoy the setting. We maximized views throughout the home with walls of glass, while the roof seems to float above the living space.
