ABOVE & FACING PAGE: Located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, this three-bedroom, 2,400-square-foot residence sits at cliff 's edge to
America's newest national park. The screened porch and family room are oriented toward the New River Gorge, and a hiking trail is just steps f rom the back terrace. The
house honors the local vernacular of the Appalachian Mountain cottage in form, scale, and material, capturing the beauty of each season in an ever-changing kaleidoscope
of light and color. The great room combines entry, living, cooking, and dining with a natural palette of stone, wood, and plaster. The cathedral ceiling is bookended by lofty,
expansive window walls that connect the home's occupants to the surrounding oaks and sky.
