ABOVE: Set within a 40-year-old garden, the lighting design of this historic estate in Lake Forest, Illinois,
respects the history and maturity of the landscape while introducing a refined, contemporary presence.
Textures, plant structure, and circulation paths are gently revealed, allowing the garden to function
beautifully for gatherings while preserving its sense of age, character, and intimacy.
FACING PAGE: This French manoir-style maison, set within a suburb of Chicago, was illuminated to
emphasize elegance, texture, and depth. Lighting through layered plantings creates soft shadow
patterns across the driveway, while architectural features are carefully revealed to establish hierarchy
and balance. In the rear garden, a large fountain and mature focal tree are highlighted using elevated
techniques, allowing the property to read as a cohesive, composed environment from front to back.
