They have four children, all born in New York: Erica, Maxine, David, and Nicole. In immigrating to the U.S., Manya's family followed the typical model: the grown children le Russia first. Initially Manya and Naum did not plan to go to America. They were satisfied with their lives. But they missed Yefim and Margarita and they wanted to have the opportunity to be close to the grandchildren they knew would come. Manya and Naum arrived in the U.S. at the end of September in 1982 and set up house in the Rockaway part of New York City, an area favored by many Russians. In 1986, the couple moved to a bigger apartment in Brooklyn. As Manya looks to an uncertain future, she talks about her hopes. "Everyone finds their own happiness," she says. "Family is the most important thing." Manya understands that she is coming to the end of her life. "If you have good health, that's enough. Now I am bedridden and my le leg is lost." But she quickly brightens when she talks about her husband. "I have a wonderful husband. Besides being my husband, he is my surrogate mother and father. He takes good care of me."
