3 Built in 1939, this English Tudor stood empty for nearly three years when our clients discovered it. They wanted to return to their roots, with more land and space for their family. A phased renovation over three years allowed them to remain in the home while we honored its history and adapted it for modern living. Original parquet floors, crown and dentil moldings, paneled walls, distinctive windows, and four fireplaces were preserved. Both clients grew up on farms, and agriculture remains part of their life's work. Natural woods, organic materials, and botanical and produce-inspired textiles weave their biography into the home's next chapter. The kitchen and adjoining hearth room saw the most significant changes. We reworked the kitchen footprint and added custom cabinetry with inset doors and drawers, modern appliances, and statement lighting. Art Deco-inspired geometry from the original window mullions informed details on the island, range hood, and upper cabinetry, connecting the new design to the home's architecture. Removing the wall between the kitchen and former family room created an open hearth room centered around a new fifth fireplace. Its linear firebox and custom concrete and soapstone surround bring a contemporary expression to the space while echoing the geometry and restraint of the Art Deco period. Together, these spaces honor the home's past while making room for the family's next chapter.
