9 hospitality. Growing up, my parents made the dining room the center of our lives. They loved good food and made everyday meals feel special through their creativity, thoughtful presentation, and attention to detail. Anyone was welcome to drop by for a home- cooked meal, anytime. To this day, my friends fondly remember my parents' generosity and the good food they prepared. Sunday dinners were especially important to our family because my father made a point to always be home—he worked very hard in a demanding career as a wholesale produce buyer. Dad insisted on tasting everything he bought in order to ensure quality for his restaurateur clientele. For many years, he serviced major accounts in greater Birmingham, including landmarks like The Bright Star Restaurant that trusted him to provide the absolute best. Naturally, my father allowed his work to carry over into his private life in all the best ways. We always had an abundance of beautiful, fresh produce at home and an appreciation for how great meals begin with fine-quality ingredients. He and my mother
