A R C H I T E CT U R E 261 LEFT: The pool house sits next to the main residence. This building, which features a garage, shop, and indoor pool on the bottom floor as well as a guest suite, office, and studio upstairs, was built before the main residence. Also located on the site is the "energy house," where the ground source heat pump and two boilers are stored. The energy house served as a prototype for the subsequent larger buildings, where finishes, design concepts, and materials were tested to ensure they were exactly what the owners wanted. ABOVE: A handmade door crafted by Caleb Bruce is one of the many custom features in the home. Made from a plate of steel placed between two pieces of glass and framed in fir, the door is a one-of-a-kind piece. Photographs by Erik Bishoff
