ABOVE: The noteworthy concrete wall that begins outside
continues past the kitchen and dining room. It is crowned
with a balcony that curves along with it. In the dining area,
a folding door opens the space to the outdoors. Hickory
hardwoods and an electric induction range make the
space aesthetically pleasing and good for the environment.
Architect: Nathan Good Architecture.
FACING PAGE TOP: Due to the sensitive environmental
zoning, the new design carefully integrated the existing
footprint and structure and drove the design and spacing for
the new structural system on a site overlooking the Columbia
River. An expansive terrace includes ample seating for the
family and guests, while tall windows flood the interiors with
natural light.
FACING PAGE BOTTOM: Inside, the home features radiant
heated stained concrete floors, an efficient wood-burning
fireplace, and an angled ceiling. Neutral furnishings allow the
structural elements of the home, such as the built-ins next to
the impressive fireplace, to take center stage. Architectural
design: Martha Berndt.

large undertaking for
an owner.
If we can make the
process enjoyable and
stress-free, then we've
done a good job."
