A R C H I T E C T U R E 8 " ABOVE: The road starts well above the very steep site of the Herron Island Cabin, where you enter via a 20-foot bridge that takes you to the second story. The residence, which serves as a weekend retreat, is a metaphor for detaching from everyday life. FACING PAGE TOP: Stunning cedar lines the soffits and continues into the interior of the home as seen through the transom windows. All of the bedrooms are on the top floor, so guests wind down the stairs to enter the kitchen and the other living spaces. FACING PAGE BOTTOM: The sizable deck on the ground floor was built in place of the previous deck to maintain as much square footage as possible as the area has experienced zoning changes since the original construction. Its angles serve to break up the rectilinear nature of the home above it while offering plenty of room for outdoor leisure.
