MCKINLEY SPRINGS HORSE HEAVEN
HILLS MOURVÈDRE
gourmet pairings
The wine's spice profile and
medium body make it a great
complement to your favorite
steak as well as dishes on the
lighter side: salmon and fresh
vegetable pasta.
tasting notes
Mourvèdre hails from Southern France and Spain and is known
for its spicy nose, meaty notes, and rustic profile. Rough and
earthy, like its terroir, the McKinley Springs Horse Heaven
Hills Mourvèdre offers a peppery nose of intense and focused
aromas. A rich mouthfeel of leather and tobacco carries you to
the finish. We have been bottling this wine as a single varietal
since 2007.
winemaker's insight
Here in the New World, Mourvèdre has gained popularity
among red wine enthusiasts. Often used as a blending grape,
here in our McKinley Springs Horse Heaven Hills Mourvèdre,
the fruit gets to take center stage. Deep in the Horse Heaven
Hills grows McKinley Springs, a vineyard first planted with wine
grapes in 1995. The soils are deep, sandy loams atop broken
basalt—prime conditions for heat-loving Rhone varietals.
