Coming from a vineyard named after the patron saint of
night watchmen, this wine offers luxurious purple aromas of
blackberry-vanilla sauce and dark chocolate. The palate is sticky
and singing with coffee, milk chocolate, and dried cherries,
showing plenty of deep tannins and boisterous acidity that will
make this bottling last a while.
winemaker's insight
St. Peter of Alcantara Vineyard is one of the steepest head-
trained zinfandel vineyards in San Luis Obispo County. Zinfandel
ripens at an uneven rate, with clusters ready at differing
times. Watchfulness is key and careful sorting post harvest is
instrumental in maintaining the quality and consistency. Picked
before dawn to take advantage of the cool mornings, the grapes
are brought straight to the sorting table.
