RIGHT: Located on a wooded site on the banks of the Sandy
River in Troutdale, Oregon, the home boasts incredible views
and meticulous craftsmanship. The owner and his son, a
Canadian carpenter, built it and labored lovingly over every
detail. A tapered, board-formed concrete wall is a sculptural
element that extends from the entry through the house and
out to the other side. In addition to serving as a structural
element, it separates the public and private spaces.
BELOW: Sixteen-foot-wide Nana doors fold open to allow the
dining room to expand onto the deck and dissolve the barrier
between inside and out.
